On the 15th November Sean Noonan brings his experimantal project ‘The Gamblers Hand’ to the dark underbelly of the Motorschiff Stubnitz. A conceptual project based on an experience with a neighbour it described as:
“an innovative musical suite that explores the world of a compulsive Irish gambler who finds himself trapped inside a wall.”
(insert intrigued face here)
The Gamblers Hand project features Sean noonan on percussion, and four of contemporary music’s most talented and versatile string players to accompany him; Adam Roszkowski Maciej Afanasjew violin, Magdalena Małecka viola, Jan Roszkowski cello. It is a conceptual approach that combines the aesthetics of downtown jazz/rock, improv and storytelling. Delicate-harsh writing for the quartet is woven around Seans eclectic, lyrical and organic drumming in a highly original fusion. A description of ‘The Gamblers hands’ performance says;
“The musicians perform with such wild abandon that their antics resemble performance art. Behind the drums, Noonan contorts his body jerking spasmodically as if he’s just stuck his fingers in an electric light socket. He has an extremely unorthodox approach, waving his limbs about in a manner guaranteed to horrify jazz purists, and he occasionally attacks his cymbals in mock rage.”
A new York drummer and band leader Noonan has featured in bands such as ‘The Hub’ and collaborated with the famous bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma. This is a performance that is hard to describe but should be experienced. Added to the incredible atmosphere and sound system that the Motorschiff Stubnitz provides, this is the perfect event to begin a programme of exciting music.
